Yesterday, Today and Forever
Hebrews 13: 5. Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said; “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” 6. So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?” 7. Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith. 8. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
The Bible says in I Timothy 6:10. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. This Scripture speaks loud to us even today for many are searching for money at every turn. Some are actually selling their souls in efforts to gain as much money as possible, thinking it will secure their future. It reminds me of a funeral of a Billionaire. He had so much money that he nor his children or even his grandchildren many, many generations would have been able to spend it all. At his funeral service two ministers sat in the pulpit getting ready for the service to begin. The younger leans over and asked the older, “I wonder how much money, did he leave?” The older minister so gently replied “he left it all!” The only thing that matters is we must realize that The Lord is our present help in our time of need.
Please don’t get me wrong, money is not evil, it is the love of money that is evil. You can’t take it with you, Job 1:21….“Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised.”
Money is a tool, which can help in many ways. We need it to buy or sell, we need it to give and help others in need, but mainly it is to honor God, for where your heart is there shall your treasures be also. Do you honor God, with your money? Do you give to help the poor or would you be called selfish and hoard it for yourself? My wife asked me a question; “What would you do with a lot of money”? Immediately I said, pay my tithes and get out of debt, and go into ministry full time. That sounded like a good answer, but in truth my answer should have been to honor God. Do your best to worship him in all that you do or say. Colossians 3:17. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Although we use money as a tool, it is not our source. Father God is our source for Deuteronomy 8:18. But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth… He gives us the ability! So, no matter how bleak, no matter what may come He said “He will never leave or forsake us”. Keep your faith in God, when we trust in him with all your heart. Scripture tell us; Proverbs 3:5. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6. In all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. So remember He never changes. He is the same yesterday, today and forever our God.
