Out of Order
Hebrews 13: 7. Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation
A novice is defined as a person new to or inexperienced in a field or situation: he or she can be appointed or hired in the capacity of their office, but because they are new and inexperienced to their acquired position their leadership will be defined on how well they prepare and learn. A good leader is someone born a leader, and one who earns the right to lead. This leader must possess character, must have compassion for their position, must be confident in their ability and have knowledge about their job (in other words must read the hand book). This leader must be orderly, tolerant and respectful, able to keep goals and committed to excellence. This true leader in the church must be committed to Christ in every way, and follow Christ instruction at all times.
This is where we have our problems! I had a friend tell me that one of the Deacons at his church told him that the Deacons are the authority in the church and they have more authority even than the Pastor. I shook my head in disbelief and said what Bible are they reading from? Jesus once said in John 14:15. If ye love me, keep my commandments. In other words if you love Jesus, you must follow HIS Word, but that is not the case in many churches. Many are following traditions of men, following what they think is the way instead of reading the Word of God to find out the truth. The truth will make us free!
Abraham Lincoln once said: “you cannot escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today. Many are evading their responsibility today and not following what the Word of God said about leadership. Here is the first Deacon in the church Acts 6. 2. So the Twelve gathered all the disciples together and said, “It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables. 3. Brothers and sisters, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them 4. and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.” 5. This proposal pleased the whole group. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit; also Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas from Antioch, a convert to Judaism. 6 They presented these men to the apostles, who prayed and laid their hands on them.
If we are going to be in order, Jesus is the Shephered 1 Peter 2:25.For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls. Pastors are the under shepherd, 1 Peter 5:2. Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them–not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve; Get in order! If Deacons are the authority, why does a Pastor have to ordain them? Shouldn’t they have the authority to do so?
One thing is for sure, we need to quit bickering about who is in charge and recognize that Jesus by the power of the Holy Spirit is in charge. We all have one purpose and that purpose is to tell others about Jesus, but we can’t do that when we are fighting each other! This is out of order! Matthew 5:17. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Get in order and light your light shine!
